#75 Battle XII - Prayers of the Faithful

Lady Olynder glided through the graveyard with her Sorrowmourn Choir of banshees and harridans. The endless spells were near, she could feel them. After their manifestation at the Synod of Fools, the so-called 'Answered Prayers' had dispersed into Barfunweltz. She simply sought confirmation that they were enduring. Anything to add to the terrors and mortal dangers of this place was good for her cause. Suddenly there was a flash of lightening. Her procession was not alone.

1500pt Nighthaunt versus Stormcast Eternals. We used the Open Play random scenario generator, plus some house rules to help get at least one of my new endless spells on the table. We ended up with a nice simple battleplan: territories on the long edges, one objective in each, control both objectives to win.

My army selection was directed by prioritising models which were 1) female (either sculpted that way or according to my narrative), and 2) hadn't already been used in a battle. A strategy which (unsurprisingly) proved a bit foolish!

Ladies' Night(haunt)

The Gravewalkers seized the initiative as Lord-Relictor Baelor the Revered translocated Evocator-Prime Arloran Dawnguard and her reinforced retinue right in front of the Sorrowmourn Choir, then charged them and wiped them out to a woman!

Yndrasta the Celestial Spear and her Praetor bodyguard then appeared, poised to swoop into the Nighthaunt territory.

Reeling from the loss of Our Lady of the Rose, the Procession of the Foolish Martyrs set about salvaging the situation. The Mourngul known as the Abbess appeared from the grave alongside a handful of lesser gheists and made to threaten the enemy's territory. Meanwhile, the Apostate (Briar Queen) summoned a Suffocating Gravetide which, combined with the Presbyter's Congregation of Spirit Hosts effectively hemmed in and controlled the menace of the Evocators.

Confident of their own defences, the Lord-Relictor now translocated a unit of Sequitors from their territory into that of the Nighthaunt. Despite a Howling Vortex cast by the Apostate, Yndrasta was also deep into the Procession's territory and the defending Chainrasp Hoard of Foolish Martyrs was beset by enemies on both flanks.

Lord-Relictor Baelor the Revered may have regretted weakening his defences as the terrifying Abbess stood fast against her foes and threatened to capture their territory. Indeed, the battle raged on on both sides of the field with neither side quite able to gain the advantage before the Stormcast were suddenly called back to Glymmsfordge (Owen had to get back to work!).

A draw (although I think I would have lost if we'd had more time)! Another fun game, made all the more so by Owen not bringing any significant shooting units - what a gent!
