#112 A Change of Allegiance

Grand Justice Ehrmantraut, the Abbot of Unreason strode into the Raptured Court, faded robes flapping behind him. The Jury of the Red Redemption rose unsteadily to their feet, as if mildly bewildered by their surroundings. For the Jurors had yet to make the full transition to mordants.

The Disciples of the Red Redemption had been founded in Salas Nova by Anya Liedl, as a secret society of mortals in thrall to the Bloody Pilgrims. Hiding their identities even from one another by wearing silver masks to their secret meetings, they had helped to bring down the Dawnbringers' new city and hand it over to their Soulblight mistresses. Since then, however, the Bloody Pilgrims had seemingly lost interest in the city and it had been taken over by the flesh-eating ghouls of the Raptured Court. With minds already helplessly under vampiric influence, it was inevitable that Father Ehrmantraut and the other Disciples had quickly found themselves caught up by the Delusion of the Rose.

For some reason, the Raptured Court regarded them as some sort of legal entity, and so it was that the former Abbot of Unreason suddenly became Grand Justice Ehrmantraut, and his Disciples his Jury.

"Have you reached a verdict?"

"Yes!" the Jury chorused in unison, voices slightly muffled by their tarnished silver masks. The masks also hid the occasional flashes of terrified confusion which passed across the jurors' faces, for their former devotion to the Soulblight Gravelords was still somehow protecting them from total descent into the utter delusion of full mordants.

"And do you find the defendant guilty or..."

"GUILTY! GUILTY!" bayed the Jury of the Red Redemption, as they invariably did, for they knew their role. The scene rapidly descended into chaos as the entire court surged towards their new enemy, every ghoul desperate to dispense justice in the name of the Raptured Court.

"Silence!" Instantly the voice was obeyed. For this was the voice of the Baby-Eating Archbishop of Barfunweltz, raised above the Court upon his Charnel Pulpit.

"Before we dispense the justice of the Holy Rose, let us pray."

Raising his arms high, charnel robes dripping with blood and gore, the Abhorrent cleric and his followers chanted their invocation. In answer, their insanity became manifested before them: First a giant, bony chalice overflowing with fresh blood. Then a gore-soaked wall rose from the gravesoil, along with dead arms waving and grasping. Finally, a puddle of fresh blood took animated form and climbed out of the earth in the shape of the mighty knights of old.

"Behold, the Knights of the Sanguine Rose!" cried the Bishop, "They have come to aid us! Now - let justice be done!"

With deafening screams, hundreds of ghouls fell upon the defendant. In a momentary flash of lucidity, Grand Justice Ehrmantraut almost felt sorry for the poor clanrat.

It's been well over a year since I've added to this blog - and indeed my Age of Sigmar collection. In the meantime, we have not only had new Flesh-Eaters rules, but a whole new edition of the game. I decided that the Disciples of the Red Redemption would work better bolstering my ghoulish hoards. More importantly, with the new Manifestations rules, I also decided to scratch-build some more Endless Spells - specifically the Flesh-Eater Courts one (although I also have plans to complete my collection of the generic ones too). I am enjoying playing AoS3 with Steve, who plays skaven (hence the poor defendant being a lowly clanrat).
