#92 Disciples of the Red Redemption

As far as the Dawnbringers of Salas Nova and their Stormcast protectors the Gravewalkers are concerned, their newly-founded Sigmarite settlement is progressing according to plan. The undead may be a constant and relentless danger for the new city's mortal inhabitants, but this is seen merely as an inevitable consequence of imposing Order in the Realm of Death. The Sigmarites are confident that this little corner of Shyish is theirs.

Little do they know that death stalks in their midst, unrecognised.

The Disciples of the Red Redemption is a secret society of mortals enthralled by the vampiric charms of the Bloody Pilgrims of the Legion of Blood. With many of them enjoying prominent positions within the city, they provide an invaluable stream of intelligence for Lady Beauvoir. Their gatherings are held under strict conditions ensuring the utmost secrecy, with each member shrouded in blood red robes and disguised with silver masks. Few know the true identities of even one of their mortal brethren. The Disciples devote their souls to Lady Beauvoir and her whole Coven, although the majority were brought into the fold through Anya Liedl's infiltration of Salas Nova.

Beneath their robes, many initiates bind themselves in ceremonial embalming bandages to symbolise their desire to relinquish their mortality for the Bloody Pilgrims and achieve undeath. By their devotion, each Redemptionist hopes beyond hope to be granted the Blood Kiss and ascend to Soul-blighted glory, but none knows their real destiny for sure.

Among the Redemptionists, men and women meet and worship separately. The female disciples are kept safe and nurtured as prospective Blighted Sisters, the elite warriors of the Bloody Pilgrims. For the vast majority of these poor women, this will result in agonising, soul-wrenching destruction.

Yet the fate of the male disciples is perhaps yet more tragic. These are not like the so-called 'dregs': broken, pathetic creatures, shuffling in the train of their vampire masters. Rather, the male Disciples of the Red Redemption are each fed and nurtured, kept healthy and thriving. For they are to the Bloody Pilgrims prized livestock, farmed in preparation for the vampires' exuberant blood feasts. If need arises, they are also of some use in battle, where their fanatical devotion to the Bloody Pilgrims makes them persistent (if not especially dangerous) foes. Lady Beauvoir is however somewhat wary of fielding them in her armies lest their presence alert the Gravewalkers to the existence of the Red Redemption within the walls of Salas Nova.

Disciples of the Red Redemption (Deathrattle Skeletons)

But even as Salas Nova is infiltrated by the mortal disciples of the Bloody Pilgrims, the Red Redemption is itself infiltrated by a Vyrkos spy sent by the Heisenbergs. Indeed, Father Ehrmantraut has risen to prominence within the secretive cult, hiding behind his title 'the Abbot of Unreason'. However, Lady Beauvoir's spy network is extensive and diverse and she has been made aware of his true allegiance. Yet she is happy to tolerate his presence (for the moment at least) for by monitoring Father Ehrmantraut she has recently begun to suspect that a member of her own inner circle may be in league with Countess Heisenberg's own steward, Bortitz.

Father Ehrmantraut (Watch Captain Halgrim)

I wanted to build some living mortal followers for my vampires. There is no warscroll for such troops so I’ve decided the Disciples of the Red Redemption (named after a classic Citadel set I owned as a child) will count as deathrattle skeletons, with Father Ehrmantraut counting as Watch Captain Halgrim.
