#21 The Hermit of Barfunweltz
Barfunweltz is a truly (and increasingly) vast cemetery, perhaps even continent-sized if rumours are to be believed. It incorporates massive areas of labyrinthine paths and avenues among the sepulchres. Deep within this maze lives the deranged Hermit of Barfunweltz. Many years ago, he withdrew from the communal life of the Society of the Sanguine Rose and gouged out his own eyes, the better to focus on his spiritual path. Blinded and alone, he devoted himself utterly to prayer, and to meditation upon the False Apostle's teachings.
Isolated as he was, the events of the False Apostle's fall and the persecution of the Society passed him by. Neither was he involved in the initial rise of the Bishop of Barfunweltz. Rather, the Hermit continued unmolested with his own, divergent meditation on the Way of the Rose. In doing so, he uncovered dark mysteries of death magic, granting him a second sight and driving him still further into insanity. As his theological delusions originated from the False Apostle himself, his deranged heart remains utterly devoted to the Sanguine Rose. The Hermit of Barfunweltz prays constantly for the ecumenical unification of all the denominations originating from the False Apostle: the Procession of the Foolish Martyrs, the Raptured Court and the Reformed Society of the Sanguine Rose. Should his prayers be answered, the might of Barfunweltz would be great indeed.
