#29a The Ballad of Lord Voltaire: Prologue

PROLOGUE - THE LADY'S ERRAND

Foolish Voltaire’s evils three.
His artless evils three:
He swelled the ranks of the Raptured Court,
Provoked the wrath of a Khornate Lord,
And their course did not foresee!

The brave knight knelt before Beauvoir.
“Grant me a quest,” he said,
“That I might aid you in your work;
Bring glory on your head.”

The Sanguinarch stared down at him,
Her heartless breast unmoved.
“If you would serve me, Lord Voltaire,
Here is my quest approved:

“The False Apostle, as you know
Was once ‘The Paladin’.
Go forth and come not back until
You know what came of him.”

The Soulblight knew his quest began
With Moh’sheh, Lord of Khorne,
For under his employ the knight’s
Abhorrence had been born.

Now Slaves to Darkness had been seen
On wild Barfun Moor;
Foul allies of the beastmen herds
Who kept a secret door.

If door be found, perhaps it led
From Shyish to a place
Wherein the Chaos Lord now dwelt,
Where he might seek his face...

Foolish Voltaire’s evils three.
His artless evils three:
He swelled the ranks of the Raptured Court,
Provoked the wrath of a Khornate Lord,
And their course did not foresee!
