#123 Battle(s) XXXV - Hieratic Magistracy of the Revenant Chancellor
Even in the darkness of Ulgu, the Kavalos Deathriders could make out the mauve-black glow of the Obelisk of Self-Assessment, piled high with tributes of bone from the local mortals. They trotted closer, alert to the danger of the tithe-evading ratmen who seemed to infest this land. They did not of course fear the Skaven, for the Ossiarch Bonereapers fear no one (save perhaps Nagash himself), but they always stood vigilant, ready to collect their Master's dues. For they were the Fiscal Dragoons, knights of the Hieratic Magistracy of the Revenant Chancellor, and their battle cry was "Pay As You Expire".

Steve and I have been playing games of Spearhead recently. I was using my Nighthaunt to start with, but I have now had a couple of goes (both losses!) with my new Ossiarch Bonereapers force, the Hieratic Magistracy of the Revenant Chancellor (I'm inordinately proud of that joke). Steve has two different Skaven Spearheads, plus a Stormcast one so we have lots of match-ups to try. The card system throws up some great challenges and twists, although I don't find the games inspire narratives as much as 'full' AoS. But I do like Spearhead a lot - it's like the 'fast food' version of Age of Sigmar. Of course that means sometimes I yearn for a 'home-cooked meal' (normal AoS) - or even a 'posh dinner at a fancy restaurant' (The Old World)! Sometimes I enjoy foreign cuisine (Kill Team)... that's stretched that metaphor quite far enough - anyway, this blog post covers about half a dozen Spearhead battles.

Obelisk of Self-Assessment |
Ulgu is not always shrouded in darkness. Oftentimes it is as bright as Aryz or as verdant as Ghyran. But it is always deceptive and confounding. Unbeknown to Elohiim Lord of Hosts, his progress in the Realm of Shadows was being tracked by various forces: Soulblight, Deathrattle, Nighthaunt, Skaven, even Stormcast. Many of these scouting forces were regularly being thrown together and forced to fight each other. As if the land itself delighted to play tricks upon their minds, the combatants might sometimes find themselves fighting in what appeared to be a lush swamp of Ghyran, or a fiery hellscape of Aqshy, yet they ever remained in Ulgu.
But despite the confuscations and deceptions of the Realm of Shadows, loyal agents of Nagash, both Nighthaunt and Ossiarch, were carefully monitoring Elohiim's progress and subtly directing him towards his destiny. The tithe-evading Skaven of the Wyrmhole Covenant only made this easier as they appeared to be tracking Elohiim themselves. Once the Bonereapers had diverted them away from their Bone-tithe nexus, the scene was set for Elohiim to be reintroduced to his so-called blood-son.
And so it was that both the Fiscal Dragoons and the Mortek Taxmen made their rendezvous at the Obelisk of Self-Assessment. On behalf of the Hieratic Magistracy of the Revenant Chancellor, they gestured to Elohiim Lord of Hosts to approach the Bone-tithe nexus.
"He is here?"
"You will wait."
