Building the Mortis Organ (allies)

It took a long time for this idea to become reality, but the Mortis Organ was made financially possible by a local Adepta Sorrorita player kindly agreeing to buy off me the remains of an Exorcist tank kit after I'd taken all the organ bits!

The organ of the exorcist tank is a lovely bit of sculpting but I had to hack it up a bit as it is integrated into the roof of the tank model. Also, the keyboard is separate from the organ pipes and facing in the opposite direction from the traditional church organ I wanted to replicate. Finally, the organ 'pipes' on the tank model are actually missile launchers so I had to drill out the missiles. This proved to be the hardest part of the conversion (and the part I am least satisfied with in the end result).

Securley attaching the organ to the top of a Mortis Engine was also rather tricky but it came together eventually after a lot of experimentation. Once I'd got it in place, I quickly realised the banshees that are supposed to swirl around the Engine would look too much (and be really difficult to attach), but from a rules point of view, the music of the organ itself would do fine to represent the effect of their screams. (The Mortis Engine kit is really nice, and a gold mine for bits! I'm planning on building about ten separate miniatures from it.)

For the Organist himself, I had saved a crypt ghouls specially for the purpose as I wanted to try and reference the naked organ player of the late Terry Jones from Monty Python. I fear the reference is too subtle for most to appreciate, but I know its there!

It was a fun model to paint, although there are parts of the ethereal host that are pretty tricky to get to. Luckily my nighthaunt colour scheme is very forgiving.
